SMHS Junior/Senior Prom

Important Information
about the
Smoky Mountain High School Prom

The Smoky Mountain High School Prom is an extension of Smoky Mountain High School. Students planning to attend the SMHS Prom should read the following rules and requirements as set forth by the Prom Committee, Smoky Mountain High School, and Jackson County Public Schools.

To attend the 2019 Prom, a signed form with this information must be on file with the Prom Committee before a ticket can be purchased or reserved.

Dress Code:

  • Dresses must be formal, short or long, appropriately fitting, and modest.

  • Dress must have a top half. Bikini tops or chest-only covers are not permissible.

  • Sheer fabric in crotch or bust area is not permissible.

  • Dresses must have both top and bottom coverage.

  • Dresses must fully cover chest.

  • Dresses must fully cover the body (not see-through/sheer) from waist to mid-thigh.

  • Students who do not select formal gowns or dresses can wear tuxedos, suits, or sport coats with dress pants.

  • Blue jeans are not permissible.

  • Cut off pants or sleeves are not permissible.

  • Shoes must be worn at all times. Removal of shoes could result in injury. Smoky Mountain High School and Western Carolina University are not liable for accidents or injury due to a student not wearing shoes.

Tickets/Cost:

  • The names of all guests will be marked off on the prom list at the door and will be allowed one entry to prom.

  • Once a student enters prom, that student will not be allowed to leave and re-enter.

  • Tickets will be given as keepsakes at the time of purchase and will not be needed to enter Prom.

  • If a ticket is purchased and a student cannot attend, refunds will be given up until April, 29 2019, but will not be refunded after this time.

Seniors:

Prom tickets for seniors are free.

These tickets are non-transferrable.

Seniors must verify and reserve their Prom ticket before May 3, 2019.

Juniors:

Juniors who sold Yankee Candles and earned free tickets to Prom will receive a notification, and their free tickets will be recorded on the prom list. These tickets cannot be cashed out or transferred. They may be used to pay for a guest, but the recorded guest cannot be changed once the ticket has been reserved.

Tickets for Juniors who did not sell Yankee Candles are $50 and must be purchased before April 26, 2019.

Sophomores and Freshmen:

  • Underclassmen can only attend Prom if they are the guest of a Junior or Senior student.
  • Underclassmen cannot purchase their own tickets.
  • Tickets for an underclassman attending Prom as the guest of a Junior or Senior student will be $50 and must be purchased before April 26, 2019.
  • Only one guest (underclassman or outside guest) can accompany each SMHS Junior or Senior student.

Outside guests:

  • Outside Prom guests must be in at least ninth grade or above.
  • Outside guests must accompany a Smoky Mountain High School Junior or Senior student.
  • Only one guest (underclassman or outside guest) can accompany each SMHS Junior or Senior student.
  • All outside guests must have an approval form on file with a copy of a valid driving permit or driver’s license with the front office. A Prom ticket can be purchased for the outside guest only after the approval form has been approved/cleared by school administration by April 29, 2019.
  • Outside guests must not exceed the age of 20 on or before the date of Prom. All guests must be younger than 21.

Other Rules:

  • No tobacco or illegal substances are allowed at Prom.
