HOURS: 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., M-T and Th-F
Please see Ms. Methven in the library for visits outside of scheduled hours.
LIBRARY VISITS: You are welcome anytime the library is open. You do not need permission before school, after school, or during your lunch period on days the library is open. You also do not need permission if you have an “Out” period on your schedule. During regular class periods, you must have a signed note from your classroom teacher to visit the library.
LOAN PERIODS: You are welcome to borrow library materials for two weeks at a time. If you are still using the materials at the end of that period, stop by the library to have them renewed. Some materials, such as reference books, can only be used in the library. However, a copier is available at no charge for your school-related copying needs. Please remember: You are responsible for the materials you borrow. Late fees are not charged, but you will not be permitted to borrow other materials if you have an overdue book. Please take care of the materials you borrow while they are in your possession to avoid having to pay for a lost or damaged book.
LIBRARY DESTINY ACCOUNT: All Smoky Mountain High School students have library accounts through the library management program, Destiny, so that you can borrow books. Library cards are not required. These accounts have additional features when you login to your own account. You can create favorite and resource lists, locate citation information for the books you are using in your research, review books, share book suggestions with friends, and more. To access your Library Destiny account, go to your ClassLink landing page, and click on the Destiny icon. ClassLink will log you in and take you straight to Destiny Discover’s main page. Please contact Ms. Methven if you have any questions about how this works.
COMPUTER USE: Library computers and printers are for school-related use only, as per Jackson County Public Schools Board of Education policy. As long as you have permission from your teacher (during a scheduled class) to be in the library, you are welcome. The library has a color printer/copier with scanning capabilities available for student, school-related use.
OTHER INFORMATION: You will always be treated with respect in the SMHS Library. Please don’t hesitate to ask for help whenever you need it. If it is within our power to help you, we will. We would like you to think of and use the library as an important resource in your high school experience. In return, you are expected to behave in a mature, responsible manner…treating staff, materials, and the facility with respect. We look forward to seeing you in the SMHS Library!
